About

I am currently a homeschool mom and all that goes along with it…. nurse, nutritionist, psychologist (can’t prescribe drugs!), supervisor, buyer, planner, driver, janitor, and (oh yeah) teacher.

I “retired” from an engineering position with General Electric 10 years ago, just before my second child was born. Being at home was quite a life change. I didn’t get much pregnancy sympathy from my 18 month old! But I let go of my old identity little by little.

We decided to homeschool as we were checking out preschools. Nothing against the preschools we looked at. Something just didn’t seem quite right for us.

Then there was the neighborhood camping trip. Several families in the neighborhood went camping one weekend at a local state park. My husband was at the campsite with the baby when two boys, about 10 & 12, came over and struck up a conversation with him. They talked about camping an various other things. When I got back to the campsite, my husband asked me who they were. They had really impressed him. I told him they were part of the family who homeschooled.

On a whim, I started researching homeschooling. The more I learned, the more I thought it would be the best education solution for our family. By the time my oldest was ready for kindergarten, I had been researching homeschooling for a few years and felt comfortable with the decision to homeschool.

Thankfully, homeschooling is not unheard of in this area, so there is a pretty good support system in place.

I have also been able to help a few families get started on their homeschool adventure.

I am passionate about teaching my children the life skills that don’t fall into the normal curriculum. We talk about manners, creating and maintaining good relationships, managing and investing money, etc. during our school time. I believe these life skills are the missing link between functional and happy adults.

I am on my way to becoming a “happy” adult!
